About this policy

AppKit Pty Ltd (trading as AppKit) is an independent software studio based in South Australia. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and disclose personal information through our website, business enquiries and administration. It does not cover the operation of future AppKit applications, which may have their own privacy notices or policies.

Our approach to privacy

We aim to handle personal information responsibly and transparently, taking guidance from the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), to the extent relevant to our activities. We collect information for identifiable business purposes, limit access to those who need it and take reasonable steps to protect it.

Information we collect

Depending on whether you contact us as an individual or on behalf of a business, we may collect your name, email address, telephone number, postal or business address, organisation name, job title, and the information you include in an enquiry. For customers, suppliers and other business contacts, we may also hold invoices, transaction records, payment references and correspondence. Information relating only to a company is not necessarily personal information, but details identifying an individual representative can be.

Sensitive information

We do not routinely request sensitive information, such as health information, through our website or general business enquiries. Please avoid including sensitive information in our contact form unless it is necessary to your enquiry. If you provide it unexpectedly, we will handle it with care and only retain it where necessary or required by law.

How we collect and use information

We collect information when you submit our contact form, correspond with us, or engage with AppKit as a customer, supplier or business contact. We use it to respond to enquiries, manage business relationships, prepare invoices and payments, maintain financial and tax records, administer our website, prevent misuse and meet applicable legal obligations. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We do not add people to marketing mailing lists without their consent.

Website analytics and cookies

Our website is hosted by WordPress.com and uses Jetpack Stats to understand website traffic, such as page views, referring websites and general visitor locations. WordPress.com and Jetpack may process technical information, including IP addresses, browser or device information, referring URLs and visit times. AppKit receives website statistics rather than a list identifying individual visitors. WordPress.com and its services may use cookies or similar technologies to operate the website and measure usage. We do not currently use Google Analytics.

Where information is stored

Contact form submissions are handled through WordPress.com and Jetpack Forms. Responses may be stored in our WordPress.com site and sent as email notifications to our designated business inbox. We use MYOB for bookkeeping and accounting, including customer and supplier details, invoices and financial records. These are cloud services operated by third-party providers. Information may be stored, processed or accessed in Australia or overseas according to those providers’ systems and arrangements; we do not represent that all data remains in Australia.

When we share information

We may disclose information to service providers that help us host our website, process enquiries, provide accounting software, manage business communications and meet legal obligations. These include WordPress.com and Jetpack (provided by Automattic) and MYOB. We may also provide information to regulators or authorities where required or authorised by law. We do not sell personal information to data brokers or advertisers.

Overseas handling

Some providers and their subcontractors may process or access information outside Australia. MYOB identifies overseas service-provider locations including New Zealand, the Philippines and the United States in its published privacy policy. WordPress.com and Automattic operate internationally. The exact locations involved may change with provider arrangements. Please consult their privacy policies for more information.

Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to limit access to personal information and use reputable service providers with security measures for their services. No internet-based system can be guaranteed completely secure. We keep information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy or to meet legal requirements. Australian tax and business records generally need to be retained for at least five years, and some records may need to be kept longer. When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it where practicable.

Access, correction and complaints

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, request a correction, or raise a privacy concern using our Contact page at appkit.au/contact/. We may need to verify your identity before providing access or changing records. We will consider your request and respond within a reasonable timeframe, explaining any legal or practical reason we cannot fulfil it. If the Privacy Act applies to the matter and you are dissatisfied with our response, you may be able to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our business, technology or legal obligations change. The latest version will be published on this website with an updated date. When AppKit launches products with different information practices, we will explain those separately.
